Question about Pets:Strange Lovebird behavior?

We have 11 lovebirds at present and just have had two new babies a few weeks ago. They have just come out of the nest recently to feed on their own.
To answer your question I would like to give you a quote from the book: 'A Step By Step Book About Lovebirds' by Arnold Weston.
Based on my own experience this statement is entirely correct.

"The male will probably help shred the nest material and may even want to help with the actual building, but the sturdier female will do all of the real work. The peach-faced female will stuff the nesting material among her rump feathers before carrying it to the nest, often letting the material stream behind her like the tail of a kite."

I think that you should have your answer in that quote. First of all it is almost certainly a female and yes, it is entirely normal to carry the nesting material under her wings. It is only the peach-faced lovebirds who carry their nesting material in this way.
