| Question about Pets:Are there any wildlife experts or vets out there that can help me? |
well im not a vet or a wildlife expert, but i have taken in abandoned baby birds. what you need to do:
FEED it small worms about 5x a day, dangle it directly above beak where he can see it. if he doesnt eat within 20min he is not hungry.
FLYING is very difficult to teach sometimes, depending on the braveness of your bird. if he is feathered and ready to learn then this is what me and my friend did: bring him into an enclosed room with a friend. set him on your finger and move your hand up and down, on the way down he should beat his wings and after 3-5x he should fly. have your friend sit 1m infront of you so the bird can land on your friend.
after awhile the bird i raised would land on my friends finger! we practised in a bathroom, one of us sat on the toilet and the other sat on the floor approx. 1m away, after lots of practice and waking up at 7 every morning to find worms, he could land on the edge of a box or right on my shoulder or finger. you could secure your house and let him fly around himself but under supervision, but my friend had a dog and a cat and wasnt supposed to leave his crate so we had no choice.
BATHING: my friend had a bird bath that we put a small amount of lukewarm water in and he had his first bath (it was ADORABLE!) after bathing the bird needs warmth because it is still young and fragile, if he is frightened, take him out right away.
RISKS: you could leave this up to the mother bird if you have it, but after the baby has come in contact with a human the mother may reject it. dont feed it bird seeds, it isnt old enough. if you are lucky, you may succesfully have a healthy bird.
OTHER OPTIONS: you could give it to the animal shelter to deal with (but what fun is that?)
P.S. the bird lived with my friend, we found it when i was sleeping over there, and he unfortunatly passed away, but i dont know what she did with him he was healthy and learning while i was there! also the bird i took care of was proper age for flying and was feathered. if you have anymore questions e-mail me kylie_kbob@hotmail.com
glad i could help!
