| Question about Pets:Green cheeked vs. sun conure? |
Sun Conures are more expensive.
Don't let your cat touch your bird, ever, and you should be ok.
Make sure you use lots of ventilation when cooking and housing a bird in the family room should be fine.
As far as going out of town...I have a bird smart friend watch my birds. Some bird stores offer boarding.
In my humble opinion green cheeks are usually a bit more stubborn then sun conures. Green cheeks tend to think they are much bigger birds. Mine isn't afraid of the dogs or the cats, in fact, he tries to chase them!
The livejournal community parrot_lovers has a great section called "Living with a ____" which is where people describe living with different types of parrots.

That first one is living with a green cheek conure

And that one is living with a sun conure
Perhaps you can visit a breeder of both suns and green cheeks and spend time with the different types of parrots and make your own choice that way.
Good luck on your search!
(Don't forget to check your local petfinder for any local suns or green cheeks that might need homes)
Can a breeding pair of birds be friendly too? (previous)
