Ducks, even amongst the same breed, will exhibit a wide variety of traits. Some ducks do have longer, slimmer necks while others will have sturdier necks. Now, in pure breds you'll see less of this variation as they are carefully bred for uniformity. But, in general, you'll see lots of differences.
Another possibility is that some of the ducks were tucking. Ducks will pull the neck down, holding the head close to their shoulders, which gives the neck a wide round appearance.
