| Question about Pets:My sun conure love to eat ice cream, he licks and eats the salt off the crackers i give him .? |
The salt is more or less a cumulative thing. Our Quaker also loves to eat the salt off the cracker. Therefore we bought some crackers with less salt. It is a matter of looking at the future. Sure, he will not drop dead right now from eating the salt, but are you willing to be responsible for cutting his life span by 25% to 50% ??
As for the coffee, it is a stimulant. Your bird has such a small amount of body mass that for him to drink a teaspoon of coffee would probably be equivalent to you drinking 2 gallons of coffee at one time. The strain on his heart and circulatory system will be extreme. Birds can and do die from heart attacks, and this could easily prompt one. In addition ,he will get very hyper. He could easily get so hyper that he might fly into a wall or window , injurring himself or even worse.
Again, this may not happen the first time or even the tenth time you give him coffee. But how will you feel if it does happen??
As for the ice cream, this is a simple matter of calories. Too much sugar will add extra weight, which may strain his heart.
Of course you want to give your bird special treats. In most cases this means simply give them in moderation. Occasional ice cream is OK. But if it gets to be an every day thing, it may come back to impact his health.
The coffee is one of the hardest things for his metabolism to handle because of the birds small size. In my opinion, it is not worth the risk. You will have to decide for yourself if you are willing to risk your birds life.
