yeah that could be where the problem originated from.. but it sounds like you just made it worse.
im not a bird trainer, but im my experience flicking a bird on its beak just teaches them to become more aggressive. birds are not human children. they do not respond to punishment like that the same way children do.
birds respond to trust. hurting or scaring him will not teach him to trust you.
