| Question about Pets:Parakeet Problem |
I can't help you with that, I'm sorry to say. I will mention two things. I can say from experience with both handfed and parent-raised parakeets that there is little difference in their trainability or suitability as pets. Honestly, my handfed bird was much more demanding, and my parent raised parakeet is literally the best bird I've ever had. If you can find someone who is very knowledgable about birds, they could go with you to a petstore or breeder and help you select a wonderful parakeet that is receptive to humans just by watching its body language as you approach it. That is how I found my current bird.
I'd also like to plug adoption if you won't hate me for it. Every christmas and valentines day, literally tons of these birds are given as gifts. Many end up with negligent owners who don't have the interest or ability to care for a bird. Your local shelter probably has a bird or two in need of a loving home.
PLEASE DON'T GIVE BIRDS AS GIFTS!!! Birds are highly intelligent vertibrates, and can be difficult to care for. It's OK to throw away flowers, it's not ok to throw away parrots.
