| Question about Pets:Can i keep quails with my hens? |
Yes you can keep quail with chickens, and yes they will eat the same feed. I feed then scratch feed and I've had plenty of success with both chickens and quail. If you keep them in a pin with an open top, you may want to clip their wings. http://www.poultryhelp.com/wingclipping....
I advise you to put them in a covered cage/pin so you don't have to go through the trouble of clipping their wings when needed. Quail can fly very well, once they fly away, they usually don't come back.
There are other birds you can house with chickens. All gamebirds like turkey, quail, grouse, and pheasants can be kept with them as well as peafowl, guineas, ducks, and geese. Really the only birds you don't want to keep with them are inside birds like parrots and parakeets. My chicken house is split into three parts, two of them for pigeons and one for the chickens to roost and lay eggs. When I let my birds out, they don't bother each other at all. You can even have an aviary with doves and small chickens in it, as long as there are enough roosting sticks so the chickens don't fly up in the dove boxes.
Hope I helped :]
