| Question about Pets:I have 4 parakeets...? |
Are the birds wings clipped so they cant fly high? If they are I would open the cage door and let them out for a bit. I did this with my 4 budgies and a cockatiel and they always went back to the cage after being out for a bit. They seem to know by instinct where there food and water is and they will always go back to it. I have 2 wild budgies and 2 tamed ones it seems the 2 wild ones flutter around me constantly when they see the 2 tamed ones near me or on me. The cockatiel was wild when i got it now it is the most friendlies of all the birds. If you dont want to open up the cage door, then talk to them alot in a calm low voice. Put your hand in the cage a few times a day so they get use to it. You can also make a T out of wood ( small perch in the shape of a T) gradualy put this inside the cage and rub it against the birds stomach and tell it to step up. The T should be about 6-8 inches long, When it gets use to the perch stick then gradually make it shorter. Then once it is use to the perch and your hand being close try using your fingers as the perch. Trying to tame your budgies can be a slow process but well rewarding in the end just be patient. Good Luck
How do you tell the sex of a cockatiel? (previous)
