| Question about Pets:Goffins cockatoo? |
I doubt it is self mutilation if no feathers are missing. Birds rarely jsut start going for the skin. They go after the skin once all the feathers are gone. What do you mean it's not working? Is it getting worse? Do you see her actively plucking feathers? Is it not healing? Try putting aloe in the ater you bathe and or mist her with. It will soothe her skin, and help promote preening as well. If it's nto healing then you need to see the vet again adn maybe get a collar for her so she won't pick at it while it heals. That's what prevents a lot of birds from healing quickly. If she is activeley plucking feathers(You see them at the bottom of her cage and or she has a bald spot) Then continue to use the pluck no more...but if she doens't have a blad spot or if she is not plucking then it may be useless. The mite spray may have been exposed to your cockatoo but you wouldn't known because she would ahve plucked the feathers trying to rid her skin and feathers of it. The birds may have stressed her out...but if they weren't they're for long and not in he rroom then thye probably weren't the cause. In my opinion add aloe to the water to soothe her cut adn go to the avian vet to get a collar, or at least see if one would help. Plus you don't spray mite spray as a preventative, ti cna caus euneeded problems. Is she getting at least 4 horus a day? Toys and cages aren't enough. Cockatoos need people to play games with them, talk witht hem, cuddle them for most of or all of the day. Increase the time you are spending with her now and get tot eh vet because you should have seen some healing withing a week or more.
