| Question about Pets:Know anything about baby birds? |
Baby birds fledge (leave the nest) before they can fly. They need time on the ground to hop around, climb low branches, and exercise their wings until they are strengthened enough for flight. This can take anywhere from a few days to more that a week.
The parent birds still feed the fledglings until they are self-sufficient. However, during this time the youngsters are extremely susceptible to predation.
If possible, move the baby to a low bush when your dogs are in the yard. Better still, if possible, take your dogs out on a leash until the fledgling can fly out of harm's way.
