| Question about Pets:My bird takes a regular shower with me many times a week, within 2-3 hours he dives into his water for another |
I have an African Grey that does the same thing. Although I don't shower with my Grey I give her a good soaking shower two or three times a week and a quick once over spritz the other days, just to get the dust off her. I've noticed when I give her a good soaking she heads right for the water bowl and takes a bath, if I just give her a spritz she doesn't have the same reaction. Funny, strange, but that's how it happens. In the wild I imagine they only get soaked when it rains, they're not swimmers so I doubt they play in the rivers or ponds. I think they like to feel the water get right down to the skin, not just on their feathers. As for curbing the mess as you've been advised, I say let him have fun. Sure they get a little messy but seeing them have a good time is worth the effort it takes to clean up. As for bird baths, if your parrot is the same size as mine or bigger I doubt they make a bird bath for them. I've tried to give mine a heavy cermaic bowl with water on the bottom of the cage but she prefers her water bowl.
