| Question about Pets:What kind of bird is this? |
It appears to be some breed of pigeon.
Birds tend to hide illnesses and injuries well because in the wild, the sick and injured birds are the first to get picked off by predators that see they are an easy mark. If the bird is showing signs of illness, then it is probably very sick and/or injured. Just a slight scratch from a cat can kill a bird. Cats carry a type of bacteria that is deadly to birds. If it has had a run-in with a cat, it will die soon unless it gets medical attention and antibiotics.
Certain foods that are safe for humans are VERY toxic to birds. Also, depending on what is wrong with it, you could kill it just by feeding it ANY food or liquid, so do NOT feed it. Take it to a vet right away! If you are not willing to do that, take it to a wildlife rescue facility as soon as possible - someone there will make sure that it gets medical care.
Inaction could mean death for this poor bird. You could take a chance and try to nurse it back to health yourself, but if you really want to do the right thing and give it the best chance, take it to a someone who can assess its condition and provide professional care.
It is illegal to keep a wild animal confined even if you have its best interest at heart as in your case. Many similar cases end sadly thought because the average person is not equipped with the knowledge to deal with injured or sick animals. Trying to nurse it back to health yourself basically adds up to denying the poor thing badly needed medical attention ?who has the right to do that?
Another thing to consider - You don't know if this bird is carrying any diseases.
