Question about Pets:Chicken egg incubation?

Sorry I don't think that they will make it. Keeping an incubator at 105 degrees for just 15 minutes can do some serious damage to the embroyo. So 120 for 30 minutes doesn't sound that good.

As for if they eggs are to old- You can use any egg that is fertilie and not older then 10 days. If you use eggs that are older then 10 days your hatching rate will drop to almost 0 and the chicks if they do hatch are likely to have health problems.

Another thing is that eggs can not hatch if they were refigerated. Reason being is that at that cold of a temp the egg membrane will die. Before incubation eggs should be kept no lower then 50 degrees.

Eggs should also never be washed. Egg shells are permable so if you wash them bacterium can get into the egg and kill the chick.

Also heat is not the only factor that makes chicks hatch. There must also be proper humidity and egg turning. Humidity should be 60-65. (83-88 wet bulb humidity)
in a forced air incubator. If you are using a still air incubator then humidity should be 60-65 (80-90) wet bulb). At hatching time the humidity should be 70-75 (92-97 wet bulb)

Turning the egg. The eggs should be turned 3 times a day till day 18. After day 18 the eggs should be left alone till hatched.

If this ever happens again I also don't suggest immediatly changing the temperature. That could cause some more complications. I would ajust the temperature slowly if I thought that the eggs may have a chance of making it.

Candling eggs. If you wish you can leave the eggs in the incubator. You should be able to see something inside the egg after day 3 but it could take a few days after that. Here is a helpfull site for candling. http://www.homestead.com/shilala/candlin...

Because of what happened I suggest tossing out your old eggs and starting over with some fresh ones. If you are unsure about your incubator here are some websites on makeing incubators.

http://members.aol.com/cgfarms/buildincu... this website has more then one type of incubator.

If you do not wish to buy a wet bulb thermeter then you can make one http://www.tifton.uga.edu/tobacco/wetbul...

Hope this helps,
