Question about Pets:My cockatiels r constantally laying eggs, but none of them hatch, what do i do?

Cockatiels often tend to become perpetual egg layers. You may have two hens who are just acting like a pair and you are getting LOTS of infertile eggs.

First of all, you need to be sure your birds are given extra calcium in their diet so that they don't deplete their calcium levels.

This can be accomplished by making sure they have a cuttlebone available AND actually eat it. If they ignore it, try giving some some food (like cooked veggies) and scraping some of the cuttlebone onto the vegetables and AGAIN, make sure they actually eat it.

Another way to offer calcium is to hand-boil an egg (chicken egg) and chop it up (shell and all) and try to get them to eat that too.

Also, if they are laying eggs and you keep removing them, STOP removing them and allow them to sit and sit until they gets bored or realize they are not going to hatch.

I'm guessing the birds have access to the bottom of the cage (without a metal grate). If there is a grate for the cage, put it back in since most birds won't tend to lay eggs on the metal grate but will mess up the cage paper enough to make a little nest in the corner and incubate the eggs.

There may be something in the birds' environment that is causing them to lay the eggs too (a mirror, two of them in the cage together, etc.), so consider that as well. You may want to separate them and this might help stop the process.

If all else fails, you will need to take them to an avian vet who can give them a shot that will hopefully help with slow down the hormones and stop perpetual egg laying.
