| Question about Pets:How can i tell if my cockatiel is male or female? |
Visually, you can only tell if it's a normal gray or a cinnamon, and has molted the first time. Adult male grays will have a bright yellow head. Adult females will have duller yellow on their faces.
If it's a lutino, a whiteface, pearl, or pied, you can't tell visually. You'd have to look at their behavior.
If it sings or whistles, it's most likely a male.
If it's mostly quiet, except for occasional screeches or little chirps, it's most likely a female.
Also, males will tend to compete when placed in front of a mirror. They will either show off by strutting, whistling/singing, or maybe attacking the mirror. Females may attack or hiss at the mirror too, but they're generally less interested int heir reflection.
If it ever lays eggs (even if they're infertile), it's female.
The best method is a DNA test. Go have it done by a avian vet
