| Question about Pets:What do i feed a cocketeil hen with babies? and how do i hand feed them and what age can i sell them? |
She needs a very healthy diet.
I recommend 30% seeds, 10% pellets, 50% veggies and grains, such as broccoli, grated carrots, spinach, corn, cooked beans, cooked peas, cooked brown rice (healthier than white rice), whole grain bread, etc,
She also needs a LOT of calcium. Place 1 or 2 cuttlebones in her cage and keep it there at all times.
It's best not to hand feed the babies unless you're experienced and all. The hen will feed them, and if you feed them as well, this could cause problems such as sour crop.
If you're worried about how friendly they are going to be, you can always handle them once in awhile. It's not necessary to hand feed to get them tame. But if you must, use a syringe and hand feeding formula. Start the hand feeding when the chicks are around 2 weeks old. Follow the instructions, and make sure the formula is smooth and not too hot.
You can only sell the chicks after they've been weaned. Cockatiels usually wean at around 8-10 weeks of age. Weaning means eating on their own, without anyone to feed them. You can encourage weaning starting at around 6-7 weeks, by placing a dish of food on the bottom of their enclosure and have the look for it. When they find the food, start reducing hand feedings bit by bit but keep the dish of food filled. When the chicks are fully weaned, you can sell them.
Here's a more detailed instruction:
