Question about Pets:I am wondering...?

Yes you can
but you'd have to tame them yourself and it can be a hassle
A breeder would be better, but I got my cockatiel from a pet store and tamed her myself, and she turned out fine.

They can be sick in certain cases, so you'd better check for symptoms before you buy the bird. Make sure it is lively, active, eating, drinking, and playing. If you already have a bird and are getting another one, be sure to quarantine for 30+ days.

They will not come pregnant (although with birds, they lay eggs, so it's not called pregnancy) because the birds in the pet store are much too young to breed.

All female birds can lay eggs in their own cage. In fact, all female birds will lay eggs at some point, even if there is no male. In that case, the eggs will be infertile and will never hatch. It has nothing to do with it being from a pet store or not.

Be sure to do a lot of research on parakeets before you get one though. A LOT of research. Trust me, it will help.

How do you tell the sex of a cockatiel? (previous)
Sun Conure? (next)
