| Question about Pets:My cockatielss egg hatched a cute chicky. It looks blind are they suppose to look like that? |
All chicks from parrot types are born blind and covered in soft down. The other eggs should hatch on the third, fifth and seventh days after the first hatch day. This reflects the fact that the eggs were all laid over a week The mother may eat the egg shells to replenish the calcium that she lost laying them. The chicks will start to fledge at about14 days and their eyes should also open at this time. they will leave the nest at about five to six weeks old. If you can handle the chicks in the nest for the last two weeks as they will be much tamer than if you leave it all to the parent birds. I takje chicks from the nest to hand rear at 14 days as they are very very tame when I do this but don't try doing this if you have no experience as it can be very difficult. Good luck with all your chicks.
I own a pet store and breed and rear lots of birds.
