Do you have a male cockatiel as some females lay eggs even without a mate. So here's the answer:
If she is a loner, you can take it out of the cage and dispose of it, although she may lay another one.
If she has a mate, you really need a nesting box. Small wooden box that she can enter, that opens from the top so you can check them frequently. She will not sit on them all the time, but where there is one egg, there can be more.
My cockatiel layed 5 eggs, of those 2 hatched.
