| Question about Pets:Birds Screaming? |
I know what I am going to tell is not what would really want to hear, but it does work.
I have been working with bird's for over 30 years now. And what I have learned from our screamers is to just ignore their screams. I have to use reverse psychology on ours. If they scream I will not respond nor will I come running to them.
You already know that if someone leave his site he is going to scream, but turning around and going back to the bird has taught it that if it wants your total attention all it has to do is scream at you.
If he screams, try leaving the room. Do not say his name nor make eye contact with him. Only give him attention when he is being good in his cage.He will quickly learn that is he is being quiet that you will bring a treat, so then you are rewarding your bird when he isn't screaming.
Since this is a learned behavior it shouldn't take him very long to learn it, but you have to remember not to go running to him when he screams unless he in an emergency situation.
