yes your best bet is to talk to it later in the evenings darken the room a bit or cover the cage with a big cloth that way there are no other distractions and the bird will listen to you and take more notice of what you say pick out a word to teach the bird and keep repeating it until it picks it up or a short phrase two or three words max my bird could say (that's it you bugger you leave me in the dark) every time we turned the light off at night
