| Question about Pets:Need help knowing more about breeding my gouldian finches...? |
It takes awhile. Did you put nesting material in the cage?
Depending on the age of your birds they may not be ready to nest yet. It's taken my pair a few attempts of laying to get the hang of incubating, and the first egg that hatched they tossed the chick.
So.. be prepared for many failed attempts at first - make sure you have a constant supply of fresh hard boiled egg yolk and/or egg food - calcium in the form of liquid drops added to the egg food and a cuttle bone, and make sure there is plenty of variety in their diet and food and fresh water are readily available.
Also make sure your cage is sufficiently big enough. It needs to be longer than it is tall - I use a finch flight cage for my pair.
