| Question about Pets:I have 2 parakeets, and 2 parrots. how do i find out which are boys, and which girls? |
Ok who ever answerd the pinky finger answer is an idiot. To tell if your parakeets are male or female- you need to look at the area above their beak called the Cere. On males it will be more of a blue/purple color (once they get older) and females will be a pinkish/brown color with it turning red sometimes during mating season.
Also- if your birds are only eating seed- you need to try to offer them some fruits and veggies. Mine LOVE baled potato, cooked rice, green beans, corn, bananas, apple, carrots, boiled eggs (shell and all) and greens. If they wont eat it, you might have to be a little stubborn and not give them anyting but that until they get curious or hungry enough to try it. It also helps if you take a bite in front of them and make a big deal about eating it. Go ooooh and ahhh and mmmm when you eat it lol. Mine dont eat anything BUT real food now. Make sure not to give them any chocolate or avacodo as this is toxic to birds.
If your bird is picking at himself he is either stressed or bored. Make sure he has plenty of toys, and new ones if they have been in there for awhile- try rearranging his toys. If he is stressed- either from lots of loud noises, etc. then put him in a quiet place or cover his cage with a blanket for a day or so.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
