| Question about Pets:Think of getting a small bird for my birthday? |
I highly reccomend a cockatiel. When tame, they are very friendly and sweet birds. They are also good first parrots.
They live for 15-20 years, some even 30. However, if you feed it nothing but seed, it will probably only live for around 5 years. Make sure you do lots of research on birds, diet is very important.
They are considered low noise birds, but they can still whistle loudly and make some noise (although how loud it is is nothing compared to louder parrots).
They -do- need time out of their cage and with you every single day, but they aren't like African Greys or Cockatoos that need heaps and heaps of time with you. The best place to put the cage is somewhere where it can see people for most of the day. Also the bigger the cage, the better. And make sure it has plenty of toys.
Other suggestions are budgies, lineolated parrots or bourke's parrots.
