| Question about Pets:How do i get my budgies/parakeets used to me? |
Take it slow. Spend some time each day (half an hour to an hour) just talking to them. Don't try to touch them yet just stand near the cage and talk softly to them. Do this until they don't back up when you approach the cage.
After this try sticking your hand in. Don't try to touch them at first just sit there with your hand in the cage and talk softly to them every day. Do this until they don't freak out every time you stick your hand in.
Once they're used to your hand in their cage, you can slowly move your hand closer and closer to the bird. Each day put it a little closer. Eventually, they'll see your hand as normal and no threat and they start approaching your hand.
Once this happens you can start trying to get them to step up onto your finger. If they freak out back away. Remember to go slow and talk softly.
Be patient because it might take awhile to get them used to your hand.
