| Question about Pets:Canary breeders--how do you sex your young birds? |
I have 10 canaries in a large cage, the males sing and sometimes the females do too. Females are not usually the singers but the odd one is pretty good at it. Try putting a cd with canary songs on for awhile each day, this will encourage singing and canaries are great mimics so will attempt to copy the song.
Telling a female from a male is hard. If you hold the bird and turn it upside to you and blow the feathers away from the vent area a bit you may be able to see but this is hard also. A male has a little i and a female has a little y. Good luck.
