| Question about Pets:I have a parrot that has every toy on the block. How do I get him to stop chewing on things in my house.? |
Our pair of Ecelctus parrots have lots of toys hanging in their cage and yet the female (mostly) insists on chewing the plaster off the walls, the wood frames around the windows and the plastic blinds. The best thing to do is keep the birds away from those things you do not want chewed. If the bird is out of its cage, just watch it. However, we bought Ginger a wooden (nesting) box with a big hole in the front and a wooden lid that just lifted up at one end. She spent a lot of time in there chewing the box up from the inside. First she made the hole in the front bigger and then she started chewing up the lid until half of it was gone. That wooden box was cheaper than having to redo the wood work in my living room. We also put a piece of two by four on top of the cage just as a big chew toy. It does not stop her entirely from going after the blinds, but apparently they are part woodpecker or beaver and love to chew and splinter wood, so just give them something that you do not mind them chewing on. For some reason the raw UNTREATED wood is much more fun than all the fancy toys.
