| Question about Pets:How are cockatiels different from budgies? |
Though both budgies and 'tiels are both Australian species, budgies are a totally different type of bird altogether.
You probably already know that the most distinguishing physical feature of a cockatiel is the crest, or the feathers that stick up on top of their head. They're very sweet and tame if you handle them enough. I had a female 'tiel who would snuggle under my chin and let me scratch her head with my finger.
If you already have budgies then I'm sure you know how to care for them. Luckily, cockatiels don't require any especially different care than budgies do. I have a tiel and a budgie living together in the same cage and both eating the same food, and they've been thriving like that for years. They're best buddies.
You should know that cockatiels tend to cost quite a bit more than budgies. My handfed baby tiel, which I bought from a pet store, was $130, whereas budgies in the same shop cost $23.
Hope I've helped you =)
