| Question about Pets:Would like to know when chickies can finally be moved in with full grown chickens? |
This all depends on how much space you have and if the chicks have a mother. If you are giving your birds the whole yard to roam they will be able to be released with the older birds when they are younger. If you put them in a coop you will have to wait to their are older or they will be beat up by the other chickens with or without their mother around.
If letting the birds out in to roam the yard- I let my chicks go out into the yard at a week old if they have a mother. If they don't I keep them caged. The reason why I do this is because the mother hen protects her chicks not only from the other chickens but also from pretitors like hawlks. Then at around 2-4 months of age (depends on the chicken) I will allow them to enter the yard flock.
If letting the birds into a coop- I don't permit my chicks to enter the flock of adult chickens that are in a coop till they are six months old. (Around the time when they start to lay). Reason being is that there isn't as much space in the coop and therefore the little guys will get beat up and possably killed by the other chickens. If they have a mother I would also wait till the chicks are older because the mother hen is going to have a very stressful time trying to raise her chicks with a bunch of adult birds around.
The more room you have the more space there if for the chicks to get away from the full grown chickens
Hope this helps,
