| Question about Pets:My cockatiel doesnt like her tail feathers? |
I would not be concerned about her yet, but I do emphasize the yet. While preening is a very natural process for birds (much like bathing to us), the purpose of preening is to align the feathers in their appropriate position, not to tear/break feathers off of the body. Normally, when a bird is actually removing their feathers, it is due to high stress or high boredom. The way your bird is behaving now does not seem to be cause for concern, but if your bird begins pulling out her feathers, you may have a serious problem on your hands. What I would suggest is to make sure that your bird gets plenty of time outside of her cage, and that when she is in her cage, she has a variety of toys that she can play with. Swap the toys out on a weekly basis so that she can get some variety in her life. You may also want to buy a special conditioning seed formula that will give her additional nutrients that she may need during this time. Good luck!!!
