| Question about Pets:DO mosquitoes bother aviary birds? |
Yes, very much so. And they are prone to many viruses mosquitoes carry.
Here is what you do (and what we did): install a very fine mesh insect screen layer over your larger wire frame. This will not only stop many bugs from getting in, but will also provide some blockage of the intense sun for your birds on hot days. You can pick up rolls of the stuff at Home Depot or most other home improvement stores. Simply staple it on with a staple gun completely over your window areas.
We even took this a step further and bought acrylic plastic panels we could put on and take off to put over the windows. Now this is totally optional, but it not only blocks bugs but keeps the heat in on cold days. Measure the size of your window openings and head to a home improvement store or Tap Plastics, if you have one in the area. This will be more expensive than mesh, but will be even better.
