Yes , 24 -48 hours is the standard stock answer.
There are some ( a very few) companies that have paint that is not toxic to birds. I know of a Yahoo group which has a large file on this in their library, including a list of the safe companies. I can direct you to the group if you would like to check it out. Just E-mail me.
