| Question about Pets:Why do my chickens have floppy combs? |
Combs are a normal thing for chickens to have. The size of the comb all depends on where the chicken comes from. The comb and wattles have a very important use. They keep the chicken cool. The blood of the chicken circulates from the wattles and the comb helping the chicken stay cool. The Dorking chicken is from Itaily which would explain why its wattles and combs are larger then most breeds.

picture of a dorking hen with a loppy comb. See how in the comb it isn't one solid color. This is normal. If you see that in your chickens they are fine. But, if you are seeing alot of yellow they may be sick.
If you chickens are sick there will also be other side effects. Such as huddling up for warmth, not eating well, eyes dull, moving slowely, not laying well, runny droppings, and so forth.
Ways to make sure that your chickens are do not get sick or sicker is to make sure that they have good food, and water. If you feel that it is nessassary you can give your chickens one tablespoon of sugar per gallon of water. If you notice your chickens don't want to eat you can mix some mollasses into their feed.
Hope this helps,
